Research in Ethics

Research

It belongs to the tradition of the Institute of Philosophy to study ethics in order to understand moral issues, not to establish moral rules or ethical codes. Therefore, precedence is given to the analysis of the various psychological, historical and relational aspects of moral issues. In addition, much attention is paid to classical texts in ethics and moral philosophy whether they stem from antiquity, early modernity, or the Enlightenment. At present, prevailing ethical views are critically examined from perspectives provided by the analytic tradition (Williams, Nagel, Kolnai, Wiggins, ...), the hermeneutic tradition (Gadamer, Ricoeur) and French philosophy (Foucault, Lacan, Lyotard, Derrida, Deleuze, ... ).
