The Institute of Philosophy
In 1993, the Institute of Philosophy was given the official status of a faculty. However, it retained its historic name of "The Higher Institute of Philosophy". The organisational structure of the Institute is the same as that of the twelve other faculties of the KU Leuven. The Institute is comprised of one department and is recognised by university administration simply as the Department of Philosophy. Nevertheless, the Institute is not a sub-section of some overarching faculty such as the Humanities. It is an independent faculty.
