General Information

With more than 130 Professors and researchers and over 100 doctoral students, the Institute of Philosophy is among the largest research groups in philosophy in the Benelux countries. After admission to the doctorate, the doctoral student begins the Doctoral Programme. He or she conducts research under the supervision of a member of the academic staff, who belongs to one of the Institute’s five research centres.

The Doctoral Commission is responsible for admission to the Doctoral Programme, the organisation of the Doctoral Programme and the evaluation of doctoral students.

Doctoral Programme

The doctoral student prepares a doctoral dissertation and participates actively in the scientific research of the Institute. The aim of the Doctoral Programme is to structure this participation and to certify it. Doctoral students record their own educational activities on a form and submit a progress report each year.

The Doctoral Programme is completed when all the requirements are fulfilled and approved by the doctoral commission. The Institute provides within the MPhil programme an extensive number of doctoral seminars.
