Doctoraatsverdediging - Doctoral Defense

On Tuesday 28 May (3:30 PM), Jan Willem Lindemans will defend his doctoral dissertation The Road to Rejection and the Burden of Methodology: F.A. Hayek Reassessed. The defense will take place in room PI 00.38 (Andreas Vesaliusstraat 2, 3000 Leuven). His promotor is prof. dr. Antoon Vandevelde.

Activiteiten - Activities

• LECTIO (the Leuven Centre for the study of the transmission of texts and ideas in Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance) kindly invites you to attend the Lectio Chair 2013 held by Prof. Dolbeau, entitled "La circulation des oeuvres augustiniennes dans l’histoire culturelle de l’Occident medieval". The lecture will take place on Thursday 28 May (4 PM) in the Chapel of the Holland College (Pater Damiaanplein, Leuven).
• The Leuven Doctoral School for the Humanities and Social Sciences is organising three lectures and interfaculty seminars on Gender by prof. Barbara Duden (13-14 June), prof. Cordelia Fine (19-20 September) and prof. Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak (24-25 September). Registration for the seminars is required as places are limited; registration for the lectures is not required.

Faculty STARs: Bram Vaassen en Tom Swaak

Op het slotevenement van de Faculty STARs vorige week, namen onze sterren Bram & Tom hun prijs officieel in ontvangst. Aan alle collega's van het HIW: wie graag een werk van hen op kantoor heeft, kan dit bij aanvragen bij Tom Swaak. Hun werk hangt ook aan de valven (garagepoort) en zal worden tentoongesteld in de gebouwen van het HIW (na de werken). Bram & Tom zorgen dit jaar ook voor het ontwerp van de proclamatie-uitnodiging.

• Geert Van Coillie voert in Tertio van 15 mei 2013 onder de titel Kwaliteitsonderwijs draagt zorg voor de ziel een pleidooi voor een onderwijs waarbij de mens en het concrete, reële leven het referentie- en richtpunt vormen – tegen de alomtegenwoordige en woekerende vertechnisering, instrumentalisering, digitalisering, formalisering en formattering. Vacatures en beurzen - Job Offers and Scholarships

The University of Vienna (Austria) announces the position of a Full Professor of Theoretical Philosophy (full time, permanent position). The successful candidate will possess a solid record of teaching and scholarship in one or more of the following areas: Medieval Philosophy or Early Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology. The deadline for application is 21 June 2013.

Prijs Karel Verleye

Studenten die rond die 'vergeten factoren' of de relatie EU-burgers een eindwerk schrijven, komen in aanmerking voor de Prijs Karel Verleye. Met drie geldprijzen bekroont Ryckevelde vzw niet-gepubliceerde eindwerken van studenten van Vlaamse universiteiten. De eindwerken belichten op een originele manier de 'vergeten factoren' van het Europese eenwordingsproces. Ook eindwerken met als thema de 'relatie van de burger met Europa' komen in aanmerking. Deadline om in te dienen is 1 oktober 2013.

Call for Papers

The School of International Development and Global Studies, University of Ottawa (Canada), is welcoming submissions for the Sixth International Conference in a Series in Alternative Perspectives & Global Concerns, that will take place on 25-26 April 2014. The main topics of the conference are Globality, Poverty, and Ethics of Duty. The submission deadline is December 2013.
