Sint-Thomasfeest - Saint Thomas Aquinas Feast

The Saint Thomas Aquinas Feast will be held on Wednesday 7 March. This year's guest speaker is prof. Andrea Robiglio. The festivities start at 5 p.m. with a mass in the chapel of the Leo XIII seminary (situated behind the main building of the Institute of Philosophy). At 6 p.m., prof. Robiglio will deliver a lecture entitled Honor observed: On the Philosophical Aspects of admiratio in Aquinas and Dante. The lecture will take place in the Cardinal Mercier Room and will be followed by a reception.

Activiteiten - Activities

• In de reeks Lessen voor de 21ste eeuw spreekt prof. dr. Steven Boonen op maandag 13 februari over Ouderdomsgebonden broosheid: over ouder worden en oud zijn.
• On Thursday 23 February, prof. dr. Tim Heysse will give the next Thursday Lecture on the following topic: "All Philosophy is Political Philosophy"
• Yves Petry, de winnaar Libris Literatuurprijs 2011, geeft op maandag 27 februari een lezing in de Kardinaal Mercierzaal over De Maagd Marino. De lezing wordt gevolgd door een panelgesprek en een receptie. Toegang is gratis.
• From 27 tot 28 February, the KU Leuven Arts Faculty organises a lecture & workshop on Digital Humanities. The lecture will be given by Andrew Prescott (King's College, London).
• Van zondag 18 maart 2012 tot 17 februari 2013 organiseert filosofiehuis Het Zoekend Hert een lezingreeks van tien lezingen over Eros en de kwetsbare mens.
• From 26 August to 2 September, the UCSIA organises its yearly one-week summer school. This year, the programme will focus on the topic of Secularism(s) and Religion in Society. More information can be found here.

Vacatures en beurzen - Job Offers and Scholarships

• De Universiteit van Prishtina (Kosovo) organiseert van 8 tot 20 juli de twaalfde editie van de Prishtina International Summer University. Gastprofessoren wordt gevraagd gedurende 10 dagen 3 uur per dag les te geven. Er is een vergoeding van 500 euro en gratis accommodatie. Reiskosten worden terugbetaald. Aanmelden kan tot 15 februari.
• The University of Antwerp (Belgium), Faculty of Arts, Department of Philosophy, Center for Ethics, is looking for a full­‐time researcher for the FWO-­research project From Passions to Religion. The rhetoric and politics of Hume’s account of superstition. Deadline for applications: 15 April 2012.

Informatie voor studenten - Student Information

• Op 29 februari organiseert JINT de jaarlijkse infosessie Go Strange in Leuven. Daar wordt informatie gegevens over allerlei mogelijkheden om naar het buitenland te gaan.
• Op donderdag 8 maart organiseert de Dienst Studieadvies haar jaarlijkse informatiesessie over de mogelijkheden in de Verenigste Staten voor studenten en onderzoekers: Success in the US.

Informatie voor personeel - Staff Information

• Op 1 maart, 15 maart, 29 maart en 19 april 2012, organiseert de Personeelsdienst in samenwerking met Diversiteitsbeleid een training: Loopbaan in academia, voor een doelpubliek van postdoctorale onderzoekers die een academische loopbaan ambiëren. 
• Van 5 tot 10 maart organiseren UP en Serve the City voor de derde maal de actie iCare. Personeelsleden van het HIW kunnen klussen laten uitvoeren door studenten (een archief in orde brengen, kopieer- of vertaalwerk, ...). De studenten doen dit gratis; het HIW stort hun loon door aan de organisatoren van iCare. Wie klussen heeft en hiervoor graag beroep doet op studenten, kan dit melden aan Ines Van Houtte.

Persknipsels - Press Cuttings

• Jan Arreman en Filip Buekens reageerden in het NRC-Handelsblad op een stuk over 'ijdeltuiterij in de filosofie' door de Groningse filosoof Hans Harbers . Hun reactie is hier te vinden.
• In het meest recente nummer van De Witte Raaf (januari-februari) verscheen een artikel van em.prof. Herman Parret: Lyotards Postmodernisme.
• Em. prof. Herman De Dijn: Moderniteit kan Christelijke interpretatie niet toetsen (ook verschenen in Tertio 626, 01/02/2012, p.13)
